We run a 10 bedded Daycare Centre known as Thalassaemics Welfare Daycare Management Centre (opposite Garia 5 No. Bus Terminus) under the supervision of experienced Doctors & Nurses. The daycare centre was started on 7th of March 2021 with the objective of catering to Thalassaemia patients primarily staying in South Kolkata and adjacent districts. We offer the services at very low cost to make it affordable for the patients coming from poorer sections of the society. Since our inception, we now have 35 patients who are on regular blood transfusions and we have managed to transfuse more than 900 units of PRBC’s to these patients on an average in these 2 years of operation. We hope to make a difference in the lives of these patients by advocating for ‘Safe Blood Transfusion Policy’.
We offer labs and diagnostic services to all our patients at subsidized costs. We have collaborated with Oncquest Laboratories Ltd. (effective from 1st August, 2021) which is a top tier NABL accredited Diagnostics Laboratory. We have a dedicated phlebotomist at our Daycare Centre for collection of blood samples. The blood samples are collected into the appropriate vials, labelled with barcoded lab reference tags and then securely sent to the Oncquest Lab with the help of authorized personnel.
The services are also available to the non members (general public) at discounted prices.
We distribute medications including iron chelators such as Deferasirox (Desirox from Cipla, Desifer from Natco Pharma & Defrijet from Sun Pharma), Deferiprone (Kelfer from Cipla) at subsidized costs. We distribute other medications such as Hydroxyurea (Myelostat from Zydus) and Thalidomide (Thalix from Fresenius Kabi) at subsidized costs.
We offer our patients regularly with free supplies of folic acid tablets, calcium supplements, Vitamin E supplements and low dose aspirin as per the doctor’s prescription.
We provide leukocyte filters to poor patients who cannot afford to buy these leukoreduction filters but need to avail these because of unwarranted febrile/transfusion reactions otherwise.
We counsel patients with Thalassaemia along with their parents regarding their clinical management, education and career prospects, job opportunities, long term family planning, rehabilitation, anxiety and psychological well-being and many more in collaboration with field experts.
